Woman dies in single-vehicle crash in southeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A woman died in a single-vehicle crash in southeast Charlotte early Wednesday morning.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. on Albemarle Road, near East Independence Boulevard. Police said they found a 2004 Ford Explorer that had run into a tree on the side of the road.

The driver of the SUV, 34-year-old Teasia Monaye Gregory, died at the scene.

The passenger was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover from her injuries.

Police said they believe Gregory was driving east on Albemarle Road when she lost control, ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree.

Investigators believe speeding and alcohol led to the crash. Toxicology results are pending.
