CHARLOTTE — A person is dead and a firefighter had to be taken to the hospital after massive flames broke out at a home in northeast Mecklenburg County Thursday morning.
A viewer sent Channel 9 cellphone video of the house fire on Sandringham Place, between North Tryon Street and Interstate 85.
The flames broke out around 2 a.m.
Channel 9 crews could see dozens of firefighters getting the fire under control, but the home was gutted.
Officials said one firefighter was hurt but has non-life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters said they got the flames under control in about 55 minutes, but since the fire damage was so bad, it was unsafe to go inside. After delaying the search, crews brought in heavy equipment to search the home.
One victim was found dead inside. Their identity has not been released at this point
There is no word yet on what may have started the fire.
