CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting in north Charlotte Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred just after 9 a.m. at the Siegle Point Apartment in the Belmont neighborhood.

Police said the victim was shot at the complex, placed inside a vehicle, and driven less than half a mile up the road before emergency services made contact with them.

The victim was still inside a vehicle when they were pronounced deceased, according to police.

An investigation revealed that the person died on East 12th Street near North Davidson Street.

Police said the motive for this shooting is unknown at this time. They also expressed their frustration that homicides are on the rise in Charlotte.

“Our community does not tolerate this activity, and it is unfortunate that people are resolving issues with gunfire that are then turning into homicides that have real victims behind the scenes. It’s not just the person dead, but it is the person’s family, their children, their friends,” said Major Bret Balamucki.
