The Buick that was traveling east had a “solid green light,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said. A “solid red hand” was displayed on the pedestrian crossing light.
The driver of the Buick, who stayed at the scene, was not impaired, and speed does not appear to be a factor.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no word on charges.
A witness told Channel 9′s Anthony Kustura the person who was killed was late trying to catch the bus. They said the person ran across the street during a green light when they were hit by a car.
The witness said they called 911.
The crash was Charlotte’s second deadly crash Monday morning. The first was in northwest Charlotte on Brookshire Boulevard, where one person died and a second was seriously hurt and taken to the hospital.
