OUTER BANKS, N.C. — Three more drownings have been reported at North Carolina beaches over the weekend.
The deaths bring the number of drownings to 11 along the North Carolina coast since April.
All three drownings happened Saturday. The beaches involved were Holden Beach, Sunset Beach, and Wrightsville Beach.
At least one of the drowning victims was caught in a rip current. Another was trying to save someone while swimming.
All three of the victims were men.
Saturday, Channel 9 reported a man drowned Thursday at Kitty Hawk trying to save three teenagers caught in a rip current.
Police said the boys were swimming in the ocean when they were pulled too far from the shore.
Kenny Gooch went into the water to save them. The boys made it back to land, but Gooch did not.
Police say one of the boys was the son of Gooch's girlfriend.
