CHARLOTTE — A man was shot and killed Thursday night in northeast Charlotte.

Authorities responded just before 8 p.m. to a location near Mallard Creek Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard in the university area.

Officers found the victim near Mallard Creek Road and Ben Craig Drive, but they don't believe that he was shot there.

Investigators think someone took him to that location after he was shot.

The victim, whose name has not been released, died.

No suspect information has been released.

The death was Charlotte's ninth homicide of 2017.

Lisa Crawford, of the group Mothers of Murdered Offspring, said she is frustrated by the amount of violence and the number of deaths.

"I was shocked the first day, then the second and then the third and now we are all the way up to nine," Crawford said.

Crawford and her team provide support to grieving families who need love and support after they lose a loved one to violence.

They said that this year has been overwhelming.

"It’s been really busy, a lot of families, a lot of young people. It’s a lot going on," she said.

A 14-year-old was shot and killed earlier this year.

About 10 days later, police investigated the death of a Liberian store owner.

Both of those crimes were in CMPD's North Tryon Division.

Channel 9 learned this week that those two cases are bringing more resources to the area to target crime hotspots.

Crawford said it will take more to completely end the violence, especially in situations where emotions run high.

"There's nothing a police officers can do about that. That’s in the heart of people and that's what we've got to change," she said.

Crawford also said Mothers of Murdered Offspring is planning a new effort to help prevent violence.

She said details on that project will be released at a later time.
