CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Cessna plane with a mother and daughter on board crashed in east Charlotte near Wilgrove Air Park Sunday afternoon, officials said.
Officials there were no injuries after the plane overshot the runway and struck a fence outside the airport on Parkton Road.
Crews removed the small aircraft from the road with a golf cart.
The road is back open, but there is still damage to the fence.
“The incident is under control,” Battalion Chief Dave Farnum said. “We have no leaks and no injuries, obviously no fire. Right now, we're out of the mitigation stage."
The Federal Aviation Administration released a statement:
"A Cessna 172 aircraft ran off the end of the runway and struck a fence at Wilgrove Airpark in Charlotte at 4:06 pm today. Two people were on board. Check with local authorities for names and conditions. The FAA will investigate."
