BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Firefighters are investigating a deadly house fire in Burke County Saturday morning.

Six different fire departments responded just before 11 a.m. to the house just south of Morganton near Sam Huffman Road to help put out the flames.
Firefighters said 77-year-old Gerald Huffman died in the fire that heavily damaged the garage to the home. Officials said the initial call was for a fire that started in a laundry room.
Investigators are working to learn what led to the fire, and have not released any other details at this point.
