KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that engulfed a home in Kannapolis Monday night.

Officials with the Kannapolis Fire Department said that around 9 p.m. a patrol officer reported a house fire in the 500 block of Dale Earnhardt Blvd.

Heavy flames were coming from the home, officials said.

Firefighters said they arrived within minutes and extinguished the blaze.

Officials said the Kannapolis Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from the Landis and Concord fire departments at the scene, as well as personnel from Cabarrus County Emergency Medical Services.

Fire officials said crews remained at the scene once the flames were out to look for hot spots and to investigate the potential cause of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but officials said it is believed to have been an electrical fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family who lives in the home, officials said.

Officials added that the cold conditions in the region have posed an extra risk to firefighters as any water used instantly turns to ice due to the frigid temperatures.
