Hazmat crews suited up in protective gear and swarmed the facility on Startown Road.
All five injured were taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Officials said there was a leak involving two different known chemicals. Catawba County Emergency Services said they utilized the Hazmat team to determine how workers got sick. Officials said they immediately contacted the state about what happened, but do not need the assistance of a state Hazmat team.
It is unclear if the injured are Apple employees or part of a construction crew working nearby.
Apple is investing as much as $1 billion into the facility.
