CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — SWAT teams converged outside a Catawba County home Saturday afternoon after officials said a Vietnam War veteran threatened to kill his wife.
Police surrounded the home on Harbor Lane in Sherrills Ford.
“They had the house surrounded and he wouldn't negotiate, wouldn't talk with them, so with him being a vet and armed, they elected to call SWAT team out,” Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid said.
The wife escaped and officers later found her husband hiding in the basement, officials said.
Both the veteran and his wife were taken to the hospital. Neither person had serious injuries.
Investigators are still determining what charges the man will face.
