Victim identified, suspect arrested in University City homicide, police say

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has arrested a suspect and identified the victim of a homicide in University City.

Officers were called to the intersection of North Tryon Street and McCullough Drive around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday to investigate the scene.

MEDIC said one person was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.

Officers later identified the victim as 35-year-old Stacy Deshawn Herring. His family has been told about his death.

On Monday, CMPD said a suspect was arrested in Midland with the help of the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was identified as Santerio Dmon Brice, 24.

CMPD says Brice is facing a murder charge.
