TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. — Officials said a teenage girl and a police officer were hospitalized after lightning stuck the south end of Topsail Beach Sunday.
The girl was rushed to the hospital after the incident and the officer was injured while responding to the call about the teenager.
Officials said Topsail Beach Police Sergeant Zach Cook was responding to the scene and helped to get the girl to EMS, but when he was leaving the beach he was also struck by lightning.
He's expected to be OK but there was no immediate word on how badly the girl was hurt.
