STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — The National Weather Service confirmed Tuesday morning that a tornado touched down Saturday afternoon in Stanly County.

Much of North Carolina experienced severe weather threats all day Saturday.
The tornado hit the Cottonville community with winds between 86 and 110 mph, according to the NWS.

Severe weather continued to slam the Carolinas on Monday. In Raleigh, huge hail shattered dozens of car windows and damaged homes.
In southern Wake County, an EF-2 tornado swept through the area. Officials in Zebulon said the twister ripped trees out of the ground.
No serious injuries were reported.
