CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Novant Health opened its newest facility for heart and cancer care in Charlotte this week, with all seven floors opening in phases before the end of November.
The Claudia W. and John M. Belk Heart & Vascular Institute and Agnes B. and Edward I. Weisiger Cancer Institute is a $165.9 million, 260,000-square-foot project several years in the making. The site combines specialized cardiovascular and oncology care in one location to make treatment more accessible for patients and providers. Construction has taken a couple of years.
An integrative approach tackles patients' physical, social and emotional needs. Services range from chemotherapy and cardiac surgery to acupuncture and yoga.
“This is not just a clinic,” said Dr. Gary Niess, system physician executive at the Heart & Vascular Institute. “We’ve really tried to have ... a holistic approach.”
