CHARLOTTE — The Novant Health Foundation and donors celebrated the completion of phase one of the expanded neonatal intensive care unit with a ribbon cutting on Thursday.
The larger NICU space, located in Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital, will continue to deliver critical care for premature babies in a comfortable space for patients and their families.
Katie Spizzirri, chief philanthropy officer of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the community support in making this renovation possible.
“We are thrilled to officially open the doors of the expanded and enhanced NICU to our tiniest patients and their families,” Spizzirri said. “None of this would be possible without continued community support allowing us to provide complex critical care for infants who need it most.”
The expansion was designed with patients, families and team members in mind.
There will be 12 new NICU bays, allowing team members to care for 25% more babies, a private lactation room for mothers to pump or nurse, family restrooms and a new team lounge.
