CHARLOTTE — Another piece of the Ballantyne Reimagined project is expected to debut this fall, with developer Northwood Office planning to host the first concerts at a new outdoor amphitheater there.

Northwood expects to host three large-scale, national-headlining concerts in the fall, plus a mix of new food and drink festivals, it says in a news release.

Called The Amp, the venue is part of the developer’s $1 billion-plus slate of additions and renovations at the south Charlotte complex, our partners at the Charlotte Business Journal reported earlier this week.

“South Charlotte has been missing quality entertainment, access to arts and culture, so it’s really exciting and important to us,” Northwood’s Hailey Rorie told Channel 9′s Dan Matics.

There are also plans for a playground area and retail space where Olde Mecklenburg Brewery & Biergarten will be the anchor tenant.

“You can enjoy dinner, grab a beer at OMB then come down and catch a show,” Rorie said.

Rorie says residents are looking for meaningful experiences where they don’t have to go Uptown or South End, and the new entertainment district will complement the events and programs already being offered in Ballantyne’s Backyard.

“We are seeing 10,000 people come out to those events every weekend, so we know that the demand is there,” Rorie said.

Northwood expects to announce the concert lineup for The Amp this summer.
