North Carolina restaurant named among best pizzerias in the US

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Triad pizzeria has landed on the 50 Top Pizza USA 2022 list for the second year in a row, the only eatery in North Carolina to make the cut.

Mission Pizza Napoletana, which ranked at No. 24 on the list, specializes in authentic Napoletana cuisine and is located on Trade Street in Winston-Salem.

NW. Napoletana pizza, also referred to as Neapolitan, is a style tracing its history back to Naples, Italy, perhaps as early as the 18th century, where pizzas are cooked in wood-fired ovens at temperatures of 1,000 degrees for 90 seconds or less.

50 Top Pizza searches for pizzerias on the list with the help of over 1,000 anonymous inspectors worldwide. The restaurants are scored by the quality of pizza dough and topping ingredients with careful consideration of customer service, wine and beverage lists as well, according to the webpage.

“There’s probably 80,000 places in America that serve pizza of some sort, and to be in the top 25 of the group is really just great,” said Peyton Smith, owner of Mission Pizza Napoletana. “It feels rewarding, and it feels kind of inspiring.”
