WILMINGTON, N.C. — Alexander Justin White, of Durham, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring to provide and attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State Group, authorities announced Tuesday.

White was arrested last year after attempting to board a flight abroad, as part of a monthslong investigation into his activities. Authorities had been monitoring pro-IS content he was posting on Facebook, which ultimately led to his arrest.
Prosecutors revealed that White had communicated with an undercover FBI agent, expressing his intent to join the Islamic extremist group.
White faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
