North Carolina family reunited with pet 4 years after dog disappeared

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro family was shocked after receiving a phone call about their dog -- who disappeared more than four years ago.

Debo’s owners had him microchipped when he was a puppy, but one night in December 2013, he got loose and never returned.

But this week, Debo’s family got a surprising phone call.

“When they said this is from the animal shelter, I said, ‘Yeah, right.’ They said, ‘We have your dog. We scanned the chip with your name and number and everything and that's how we got him,’” said Michael Pettaway.

Workers at the Guilford County Animal Shelter said they believe it’s the longest amount of time that's passed between an owner and their animal being reunited.
