CHARLOTTE — NC MedAssist provides over-the-counter medicine to people across North Carolina who can’t afford it.

It’s the only nonprofit pharmacy in the state that holds giveaway events.

The doors of the pharmacy are open three days a week, so people can shop for what they need.

Resident Joe Shihab, 70, said he saves hundreds of dollars per month, with an added bonus.

“I think this over-the-counter medicine prevents me from reaching the second stage, which is medication,” Shihab explained.
