CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte nonprofit helping with local food shortages is asking the community to return the support.
Loaves & Fishes delivers meals to folks struggling to put food on the table with its ‘Friendship Trays’ program. But the volunteer-driven initiative is now struggling to keep a steady rotation of people willing to give their time, their money and their gas.
Some volunteers show up regularly to take meals to those in need, but that consistent help has been hard to come by and routes are becoming more costly to serve.

“I love doing this,” said volunteer Tya Smith. “When I travel for personal reasons, I think about gas, but this … I know it will come back to me some kind of way.”
