CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The West Side Community Land Trust, which is a nonprofit made up of Charlotte residents, broke ground recently on its first project to create permanent, affordable housing in the west Charlotte community.

“We purchase land and or existing housing,” executive director Charis Blackmon said. “We either renovate or build a new house. We then can sell that house to a low-income home buyer.”
