CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The owner of Little Bright Childcare Development Center in NoDa told Channel 9 she was doing her daily check of where the kids play when she found bags of full of clothes, prescriptions pills, and syringes.
Owner Tamara Bright said every day before the children come out to play, workers walk around the playground area for safety precautions.
But Thursday during her check, she said she found bags and had no idea where they came from.
"Underneath the stairwell, it was two bags," Bright said. "It looked like bags with clothes in it. It looked like somebody doesn't have a home."
Bright said she immediately called 911.
Officers came to check the bags and found clothes, several bottles of prescription drugs, and syringes inside.
Parents who spoke to Channel 9 said they were shocked to learn what was found outside the daycare, but grateful for the quick thinking.
"I think the way she acted in reporting something that she thought was suspicious is the best thing to do," parent Jonathan Paramore said. "Thankfully, it wasn't as big as it could have been."
Bright said she has cameras set up around the daycare, but unfortunately they were not rolling at the time.
She's hoping some extra help from police might keep this from happening again.
"We don't touch anything that doesn't belong to us and plus, we always want to use safety measures at every cost," Bright said. "Just have officers patrolling the area and let them know they can sleep anywhere else just not here. Safety is first regardless."
So far, police have not been able to find the person who all the items belonged to.
