CORNELIUS, N.C. — A popular Lake Norman beach that just recently opened to the public and was closed Friday and Saturday will reopen Sunday morning, according to Mecklenburg County officials.
A "No Swimming" advisory was issued Friday morning after county officials said water sampling results revealed elevated fecal coliform levels in the water.
The bacteria comes from the intestines of warm-blooded animals and officials were investigating if it came from animals like geese.

On Saturday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services announced that they sampled the water quality several times Friday, and deemed the water safe.
The beach will reopen to the public Sunday at 10 a.m.
Officials said that the advisory is standard procedure when there is a potential risk to human health since Lake Norman is a designated recreational water.
Rusty Rozzelle, Water Quality Program Manager for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services, said the advisory was necessary to close this area to swimming because of the potential risk to human health.
The beach, located along Nantz Road in Cornelius, opened to the public over the Memorial Day weekend.
