No fans, no problem: Some Coca-Cola 600 fans turn out anyway

CONCORD, N.C. — Spectators weren’t allowed inside Charlotte Motor Speedway for NASCAR’s longest race, the Coca-Cola 600. But that didn’t stop some fans from making the trip and listening to the roar of engines from an independently owned motorhome campground a few hundred yards from the track.

There were 33 motorhome owners that showed up to just to be near the action with fans coming from Maine, Texas and New York.

Among those were Clint Bowyer’s parents from Kansas, who said they would have loved to be inside the track watching their son instead of watching him race on television.

Outside the racetrack it was mostly a ghost town, with no fans walking around and the streets essentially vacant as NASCAR’s crown jewel began.
