ROCK HILL, S.C. — A 40-year-old woman was killed Wednesday and the man who shot her will not be charged because Rock Hill police said he did it in self-defense. However, the woman’s girlfriend was charged with murder.
Rock Hill police responded to the shooting at about 3:10 p.m. at Riverwalk Parkway near Cel River Road and found a woman who was shot in the chest.

The man and Samarian Lindsay worked together at a nearby business, investigators said.
After work, Lindsay got into a vehicle with Brittney Reed, 32, her girlfriend.
The man got into his vehicle and started to drive away but Reed used her vehicle to block him in while he was in traffic.
Lindsay walked up to the man’s passenger side window and pulled out a gun, police said. He pulled out his gun and shot her, police said.
Reed then punched him in the face, and he yelled at her to go away, so she did. The man then waited for officers to arrive when he was detained.
Lindsay was taken to Piedmont Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
“Based on the factors, the male is not being charged as the shooting was in self-defense,” police said.
However, Reed was charged with assault and battery on Wednesday. She was later charged with murder because she brought the gun and gave it to Lindsay, police said on Thursday.
“Reed was aware at the time of doing this that a felony act would likely be committed that could result in the death of another person,” police said.
A judge denied Reed’s bond.
Officers recovered two handguns.
The investigation is ongoing.
