Arrest made after man shot, killed outside south Charlotte apartment building

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Rafael Molina Pena, 39, who they said shot and killed a man outside a south Charlotte apartment complex early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. at the Brook Valley Apartments on Deanna Lane, off Nations Ford Road.

When police got to the apartment complex, they found 32-year-old Ramon Alvarado-Cubas outside one of the buildings with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting and no arrests have been made.

Officers were working to gather more evidence from the scene and determine if there are other witnesses to the shooting.

Minutes later, police responded to a second homicide at the Trap Bar and Billiards, where a man was shot to death in the parking lot.

Officials said there is no indication the crimes are connected.
