Officers said they were called to the Laurel Pointe Apartments after getting reports of shots fired in the area.
When they got there, they found a 17-year-old boy dead from a gunshot wound. He has not been identified.
Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting and no arrests have been made.
Detectives continued to dig into the case.
“Good ole' police work and follow up investigation with people being able to give us those bits of information to put together,” Police Chief Jerry Stokes said. “That’s usually how we solve cases.”
Stokes is confident they’ll solve the homicide, but he’s more concerned about how the traumatic event will impact the community.
“Violence impacts a community significantly, but young people dying can have an even more profound effect,” Stokes said.
No other information has been released.
