Newly released 911 calls reveal moments after good Samaritan shot, killed in Gaston County

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — The 911 calls have been released in the deadly shooting of a good Samaritan in Gaston County.

Jose Antonia Jimenez Quinones, 52, was shot and killed in Lowell in August. Police said Quinones was coming home from work when a car crashed in front of him at Main Street and Wilkinson Boulevard. He got out to help a 16-year-old driver in the wreck when that driver pull out a gun and shot Quinones, authorities said.

“The patient that was shot, what vehicle were they in?” a 911 operate can be heard saying during one of the calls.

“Yeah, they were someone who came to help,” the caller responded.

Quinones’ son, Marco Jimenez, told Channel 9′s Ken Lemon that he was in a minor crash days before and his father was the first to respond. He said his father loved helping people and he was only trying to help that teen the day he was shot.

Jimenez said he is thankful that the teen, Tyrin Dudley, is facing a murder charge as an adult.

“I’d say, ‘You deserve all the suffering you receive in life. You earned it,’” Jimenez said.

Several people called 911 about the crash and said they witnessed two people jumping out of the crashed car and running away. One caller said he heard a shot before the crash and other callers reported that someone had been shot.

“He went to the white car to help open the door and I just saw, heard a gunshot and he got shot in the back,” a caller said.

Lemon spoke with Quinones’ wife, Maria Enriquez, who started tearing up when she saw her daughter crying. Her daughter’s voice quivered as she finished translating for her mother.

“Nobody has the right to take the life of somebody else,” Enriquez said.

Through her tears, she said the last time they spoke, he said goodbye to her with a big smile, and that’s how she will always remember him.

Her daughter said every morning she takes her 6-month-old to her father’s picture on the refrigerator, and they say, “Good morning grandfather.” She said that may be the only memory she will have of her grandfather.

Channel 9 reached out to the suspect’s family but we have not heard back at this point.
