New Rock Hill superintendent ready to tackle staffing shortages on first day

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Monday was the first day on the job for Rock Hill schools’ new superintendent.

Dr. Tommy Schmolze has been an active part of the Rock Hill community for nearly three decades.

Schmolze spent the Monday morning visiting several schools, including the Central Child Development Center.

He said he is keeping an open mind as far as goals for the district, but said staffing will remain a priority.

“One of the biggest goals is retaining teachers and recruiting good teachers in a national teacher shortage. So, at this point we want to do everything we can to make sure we get the right people in place,” Schmolze said.

Schmolze said he is dedicated to honest and open communication.

He is encouraging parents to email him any time with questions or concerns.
