New nonprofit donates clothing, support to veterans in need

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dozens of homeless veterans shopped for free Saturday with help from a new nonprofit organization dedicated to helping them get back on their feet.

The organization, A New Page for Vets, provides temporary housing, job skills training and support to veterans in need.

Veterans picked out clothes, shoes, household items and more, all for free, from items that have been donated.

The former service members also learned how to effectively navigate the Charlotte Transit System so they can get around to needed resources.

“We decided as an agency, you know something, let’s give back, and so people gave to us, so we decided, let’s give to others,” said organizer Loleita Page, who comes from a military family.

Page said she hopes donations and support from businesses continue to grow so the organization can make it an annual event.

“We put the word out there and people said, ‘Here you go. We’ll help support it,’ so that’s what happened,” Page said.
