New House bill would mandate recording lessons in classrooms across South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — In South Carolina, a new bill could put a camera in your student’s classroom.

Teachers and school administrators told WCIV in Charleston they’re concerned about student privacy because of House Bill 3216.

The bill would mandate the recording of classroom lessons statewide.

S.C. House Rep. Mike Burns (R-Greenville County) introduced the bill.

Burns claims it’s to keep “rogue” educators from teaching lessons that are “out of bounds.”

Legal experts don’t think the bill will pass.
