CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The site of what was once known as “Little Pittsburgh” in west Charlotte will soon have a new development that intends to recall its steel manufacturing history.
A joint venture of Roby Commercial and Red Hill Ventures will develop a flex project, called Southern Steelyard, with industrial “duplexes” at 3015 Wilkinson Blvd.
The site was the longtime home of Southern Engineering Steel before the plant closed and was later demolished. A portion of the property was sold to developers that built a QuikTrip and ABC store directly on Wilkinson, but the remainder of the site is undeveloped.
