SPRING HOPE, N.C. — Construction has kicked off on what will be the largest film studio in North Carolina.

Ascent Studios will be located in the Nash County town of Spring Hope, about 35 minutes east of Raleigh. The studio will span more than 200 acres at 556 Barbee St. and feature five production stages totaling 170,000 square feet. The land also has exterior shots for fields, forests, roads, barns, lakes and manors.

“We believe that Ascent Studios will become a major player in the film industry, not just in North Carolina, but throughout the country,” said Devin Keaton, a filmmaker partnering on Ascent Studios.

Fellow filmmaker Robert Rippberger and Nathan Edwards of the construction firm Edwards Inc. out of Spring Hope make up the other partners in the project. Edwards Inc. is building the studio.
