CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The new farmers market in University City has been such a success that organizers have added more dates. The University City Farmers Market that opened for the month of October will now be open through Nov. 21.
The farmers market, located at the lake at Shoppes at University Place, offers fresh local produce, food preparation programs, arts and crafts for kids and live entertainment.
The market is open each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Even during the pandemic, community members are seeking healthy fresh foods, as well as ways to support local small businesses,” said Darlene Heater, executive director of University City Partners.
“We are excited to offer the University City Farmers Market for a longer period of time and hopefully as a mainstay in the heart of University City,” she said.
Organizers are in talks with partners to make University City Farmers Market a seasonal event from April through November in 2021.
The goal of the University City Farmers Market is to support local farmers and entrepreneurs. The farmers selected use organic practices to produce and source some of the freshest and most nutritious food available in North Carolina.
Each week, shoppers will find seasonal vegetables and fruits, pasture-raised eggs and meats, as well as artisanal food and natural beauty care products.
In addition, the market features live music and local chef demonstrations that focus on quick, healthy and family-friendly dishes.
All demonstrations and music performances will implement social distancing in accordance with Mecklenburg County and North Carolina State guidelines.
Capacity at the market is limited to help with social distancing as well.
Visitors are encouraged to use the LYNX Light Rail to get to the market or walk or bike using the Barton Creek Greenway. Parking is also available at the Shoppes at University Place.
