New diverging-diamond traffic pattern opens at busy Huntersville exit

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — After years in the making and close to $31 million in cost, the diverging-diamond interchange is open on Gilead Road in Huntersville.

Traffic engineers say diverging diamonds handle more traffic and can reduce crashes by 37%.
