Neighbors team up to add another brewery in Lake Norman area

DENVER, N.C. — These neighbors are bringing a new brewery to Denver.

Lake Norman Brewery opens Friday at 1753 Triangle Circle in Denver. David Waggoner and Dan Ackerman have teamed up on that roughly $2 million venture.

Ackerman also is the head brewer. His home-brewing skills had caught the attention of neighbors for years; Waggoner was among those pushing for him to open a brewery.

“Everyone on the street was after his beers. I just kept nudging him a bit,” Waggoner said. “He completely caught me off guard when he said, ‘I bought a piece of land and you are going to build me a brewery.’”

Waggoner, a mechanical engineer and general contractor by trade, handled the project and became a partner.

The brewery is located on an 8-acre wooded parcel — just one of three tracts of land zoned for that use. It’s in the south end of Denver, sandwiched between new Highway 16 and old Highway 16. The property is also in close proximity to Highway 73.
