CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — A neighbor told Channel 9 that a man's young son ran for help after his father was shot and killed.
The man and his boys were inside their home on Lambeth Drive near North Tryon Street Thursday when, according to a police report, someone fired from outside.
Right now, neighbors say that police do not know who did it.
A memorial sits at the door where 37-year-old Manquell Worsley lived.
Those who lived near him said Worsley was well-liked. Neighbors said they were shocked Thursday night when he was shot in the chest and killed.
The police report says an unknown suspect shot into Worsley's home. Channel 9 saw one bullet hole in the front door.
Channel 9 was told the man’s 6- and 10-year-old sons were inside when it happened.
"One of the kids was said to have ran to a neighbor," said neighbor Clarence Leak.
"He told the neighbor his dad was bleeding," said Darren Moss, another neighbor.
"Got the neighbor and she performed CPR," Leak said.
But it was too late -- Worsley was dead.
"That's all we can talk about, is the kids and how they had to witness that, their dad at his last moment," Moss said.
Neighbors held a candlelight memorial on Sunday night for the man everyone called Manny. Now, they said, they want some answers for his family.
"If there's anybody out there who was undeserving of such a thing, it was this man," Moss said.
"Just hoping for some justice, just hoping," Leak said.
Neighbors told Channel 9 that they didn't see any suspicious cars or people before the shooting. They don't think Worsley had any enemies.
"He was a very loving father. He wasn’t into anything bad or anything," Moss said.
