From batteries to certain medicines, lithium is a key component in things we use every day.
Now, a global comany wants to mine the material in Gaston County, but this could mean blasting and drilling every day off Dallas-Cherryville Highway.

Resident Elaine Payne said she fears her home of 34 years, tucked in the rural end of northeastern Gaston County is about to change.
"We thought we'd be here forever," Payne said. "The noise, the danger to the environment. We will probably have to move."
