RALEIGH, N.C. — On Tuesday, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported 5,351 new daily COVID-19 cases across the state. On Monday, the NCDHHS reported 4,569 new cases.

While the 7-day case average seems to be dipping slightly, the percent of positive tests in the state is currently at 14.6% -- nearly the same as Monday’s 14.5% and the highest that metric has been for the month of August.

As of Tuesday, 3,612 people across North Carolina were in the hospital with COVID-19, up from 3,550 the day before.

There are also 941 adult COVID-19 ICU patients in the state, which equals the most reported since the pandemic began.

In the past 24 hours, 336 confirmed COVID-19 patients were admitted into North Carolina hospitals and 56 more deaths were reported on Tuesday.

North Carolina currently has the highest level of hospitalized and ventilated COVID-19 inpatients it has seen since the state started tracking that number in June. 619 inpatients are hospitalized and on a ventilator.

Sixty percent of adult North Carolinians are fully vaccinated.
