The North Carolina Department of Transportation is warning drivers who use toll lanes across the state.
NCDOT said unauthorized payment vendors have been targeting drivers who don’t have a pre-paid Quick Pass transponder.

Transportation officials said the companies promise an easier way to pay your toll bill, but they charge a fee. Often, the payments are delayed, which can lead to penalties for drivers.
The state said in December and January, more than 4,000 drivers used the vendors and had to pay late fees. The state has taken legal action against the companies.
NCDOT urged drivers to only make payments directly through the NC Quick Pass website or through the customer service center.
