NC Zoo reopens after weather forced 4-day closure

ASHEBORO, N.C. — (AP) After another four-day shutdown because of weather, the North Carolina Zoo is reopening its gates.

The zoo is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday.

In January, bitter cold closed the zoo for four days. Last month, a snowstorm closed the zoo for six days.

Fallen trees caused by last Friday's ice storm blocked both visitor walkways and service roads inside. Zoo horticulture and visitor services staffs have worked since to clear the debris.

Visitors who come to the park over the next several days are warned to watch for tree limbs that remain near sidewalks in some exhibit areas. There were no problems reported with animals or damage to exhibits or zoo buildings.

The zoo will resume normal winter operating hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
