NC trooper accused of stealing $5K worth of gym equipment from Gastonia YMCA

GASTONIA, N.C. — A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper is facing charges for stealing $5,000 worth of gym equipment from a Gastonia YMCA, according to an arrest warrant, the Gaston Gazette reported.

Jerome “J.J.” Letcavage, 44, was arrested Saturday and charged with felony larceny.

The newspaper reported that Letcavage took $5,000 in kettlebells, dumbbells, resistance bands and more from the Warlick YMCA on Wednesday.

He was taken to the Gaston County Jail for a brief period before signing a written promise to appear in court. He was then released.

Officials said Letcavage, who is a 22-year veteran of the agency, has been placed on administrative duty.
