RALEIGH — The North Carolina General Assembly passed Senate Bill 157, which would reduce the time a teen has to get a driver’s license from 12 months down to nine months.

“Driving is the most dangerous thing probably that they will be doing in their lives,” said Charles McDonald, the president of the Safety and Health Council of North Carolina.
Taking away the experience requirement from young drivers is not a good idea, McDonald said.
“We are a safety organization,” he said. “That’s not a move that will improve safety at all.”
The bill now goes to Gov. Roy Cooper’s desk.
