WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A United States Postal Service employee and a Good Samaritan are being credited with saving Christmas after they scrambled to save as many packages as they could once a postal truck caught fire Tuesday morning in Wake Forest.

The truck caught fire while making deliveries and video showed the driver and a passerby rushing to to get all the packages off before they went up in flames.

The fire department was able to put out the flames in minutes, but gave credit to the mail carrier for saving all the packages that were set to be delivered for the holidays.

"If it wasn't for her quick thinking to pull right over and remove the parcels, it could've been tough,” said Wake Forest Fire Chief Ed Barrett. “Somebody did save Christmas -- you give all the credit to that postal carrier."

Officials said the fire started in the engine and spread to the rest of the truck.

Most of the packages on the truck were Amazon deliveries and the company released a statement saying they will be donating to the Wake Forest Fire Department for their quick efforts.
