RALEIGH, N.C. — Three state lawmakers are looking to ban participation trophies in North Carolina.

Senators Timothy Moffitt, Bobby Haning and Eddie Settle filed the bill on Thursday. Settle represents Alexander County.

The bill would ban awards solely based on participation in youth recreation activities under the authority of local governments, which would mean county or city recreation leagues. The bill states awards should only be provided for identified performance achievements.

The bill will now head to a committee to determine if it will head to the chamber.
