KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — North Carolina Highway 3 in Kannapolis reopened one lane in each direction Tuesday after being closed for a year and a half during its widening project.
The widening project was originally going to consist of a four-month road closure.
North Carolina Department of Transportation contract crews have been working on widening NC Highway 3 between Kannapolis Parkway and Loop Road to four lanes and its unexpected extended closure has caused residents to take lengthy detours to get to downtown Kannapolis.
