NC announces new tool to track status of mailed absentee ballots

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina has announced a new tool that allows voters who vote by mail to track the status of their absentee ballot.

With the application, BallotTrax, people can also learn if their ballot cannot be accepted, and can sign up for email, text or voice alerts.

Through that system, people can use the barcode found on the envelope that the ballot comes in. Once someone mails the vote, they can track it online until the point when the Board of Elections confirms that they have it.

“BallotTrax allows North Carolina voters to keep tabs on their mail-in absentee ballot from the comfort of their home,” said Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the State Board of Elections. “By tracking their ballot, the voter can have peace of mind that their ballot was received by their county board of elections.”

The state said they have been working on this for months and hopes it restores faith in mail-in voting.
