CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Minimum wage workers currently cannot afford a two-bed apartment anywhere in the United States, according to a report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
Overnight, Channel 9 dug through those numbers and found different national trends.
In Arkansas, which is known for having the cheapest housing in the country, you would have to earn $13.84 an hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment. This equals roughly $29,000 a year.
Hawaii, which is the most expensive housing market, residents must make at least $36 an hour to afford this type of apartment.
We looked at the North Carolina numbers and found N.C. residents must make $16.35 an hour in order to afford a two-bedroom apartment. That is without spending more than 30 percent of their income.
In South Carolina, it is only a few cents higher than North Carolina at $16.38.
